A Simple Plan: Services

What Is an Assisted Living Facility?

When we speak of assisted living, we can sometimes think of it as homes for senior citizens. These residents can no longer take care or do basic activities in life. The staff help residents with administration of medicines or personal care, and they monitor their activities to make sure that the residents are safe and well take care of. These people are provided for but are unable to do basic daily life activities. IF you visit an assisted living facility, you would find there senior citizens, mentally and physically challenged people, and those who are suffering from chronic diseases that are dependent on others. With the care and services that the facility provides them, they are able to lead a dignified life.

Assisted living facilities are licensed at state level. Assisted living facilities are also called assisted care living facility, personal care homes, and old people’s homes. People who cannot take care of themselves are given a standard of care and concern in these living facilities.

Assisted living facilities are not the same as nursing homes. There are marked differences between them.

Medical professionals are employed in a nursing home to provide medical services to its residents. Non-medical staff usually provide assisted living facilities and if they have licensed medical practitioners on their staff, their responsibilities are usually limited to providing routine medical services.

The preference for privacy and personal care are found in assiseted living facilities.

Today, assisted living facilities are housing about a million Americans. This is why much emphasis is on assisted living facilities rather than nursing homes.

For assisted living facilities, Victorian houses or schools are usually renovated that have large and spacious areas where the residents can eat together, have recreation and social activities so that they can bond together as one big family and help them to overcome missing their loved ones.

Some of the services provided in an assisted living facility are preparation and serving of timely meals, laundry and ironing of personal clothing and linens, administration of medicine, supervision of outdoor and indoor activities, reading and engaging in hobbies that interest the residents so as to keep the zeal for living ignited in them.

One should consider what would be the best for their circumstances when looking for an assisted living facility. The primary deciding factor for most people is cost and location. Then comes the reputation of the place. The staff should be well trained. Check the license and the security of the place.

No one wants to be dependent on others for the basic and everyday activities of life. Life circumstances beyond one’s control can force one to lead a dependent life. But if you choose to live in an assisted living facility you can still live a dignified life.
